Trail

Help and support

Answers to the most common questions about Trail.

Trail shows 0 steps

Trail needs permission to read Steps from Health. Open the Health app, tap your picture, then Apps › Trail, and turn on Steps, Walking + Running Distance and Flights Climbed. Your iPhone counts steps when you carry it; your Apple Watch counts them when you wear it.

How do I show steps or distance instead of the flag?

Touch and hold a Trail widget, choose Edit Widget, and pick Flag, Steps or Distance under Show. On Apple Watch, touch and hold the watch face, tap Edit, choose the Trail complication and pick what it shows.

How do I add Trail to my watch face?

Open Trail on your Apple Watch once and allow Health access. Then touch and hold your watch face, tap Edit, swipe to Complications and choose Trail.

The widget doesn't match the app

While your device is locked, Health data can't be read, so widgets show the last reading until you unlock. They refresh about every 15 minutes, and right away when you open Trail.

Can I change my goal, units, theme or icon?

Yes. Tap the gear on the Today screen to set your daily goal, kilometers or miles, the first day of the week, the map's theme, the app icon and light or dark appearance.

How do I use Trail in another language?

Trail follows your device's language. To choose one just for Trail, open Settings › Apps › Trail › Language.

Can I ask Siri?

Yes. Say “How many steps in Trail”. You can also add “Today's steps” to a shortcut, or put Trail's button in Control Center.

What happens to my data?
